Glimpses of Home - first quarter of 2021

I made a list of my 2021 goals that I wrote down in the back of my planner.  Its time to review that to see how I am doing! But, here are a few things I have been doing that were on the list.

I made three quilts.

 A quilt for my husband.

A Fall quilt.

A Christmas Quilt.

I did some experimenting with low carb baking.  Both these recipes can be found on "Joy Filled Eats".

These Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars turned out pretty good.

This Pound Cake was delicious and easy!  The recipe is going into my recipe binder as a keeper!  I already had all the ingredients on hand and made it on the spur of the moment.

A side note - these two brothers didn't really want to put their arms around each other!  I told them this would be an easy picture.  They didn't even have to smile!  Notice the limp arms.  LOL  Love them!

Happy Thanksgiving Week!

I had this idea to make "Thankful" pictures for Thanksgiving week from some of the pictures I've taken lately.  My plan was to share one on Facebook each day this week leading up to Thanksgiving.  I'm not a big Facebook fan.  I'm more of a Blog girl! LOL

I love photography as much as my other hobbies of sewing, quilting, gardening, crocheting, etc.  So, I thought I'd share some of the pictures I came up with here to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.

My thanks go to my husband for the use of his hands in this picture.  The beautiful yellow Fall leaves came from the mountains of Tennessee last week.

These toes belong to my youngest granddaughter, Victoria. Love those little toes!

This food is takeout from the Redneck BBQ Lab in Benson, N. C.  If you are ever traveling on I-40 near McGee's Crossroads, you should definitely stop.  They have won so many awards, its crazy.  The occasion for this food was my sister's 70th birthday.  We stopped on the way to her house for a little celebration.  The food is really good!

The Blessing words do not all show up too well, but it is the traditional Blessing my Mama always said before meals when I was growing up.

These lillies bloom just about the time school starts back each year.  Its an old fashioned plant that was planted here many years ago.

An early Saturday morning rainbow.  I was outside working and when I turned around, this took my breath away!

A Few Pictures

I recently read that pictures should tell a story. Well, these don't tell the story on their own, so I'll fill you in.

A severe winter destroyed my tea cup bird feeder.  Next year they should be put away in the storage building!

Brave irises start to grow despite winter's wrath not being over yet.

A new raised bed put together by my husband for my birthday.  I think 4 tomato plants will grow well here.

Sad little lettuce plants.  They survived last week's ice storm.  With a little spring sunshine, they should rebound.  We'll see!

An orchid that was a gift to Mama when she was in the hospital about 2 years ago.  I repotted it in orchid potting soil and patiently waited.  I was rewarded with these beautiful blooms this week.

We have had glorious weather for four days, but it will be rainy, windy and stormy today.  High tomorrow:  low 40s.  Spring is on the way.

Psalms and Pictures

I edited some ordinary pictures taken in our yard on PicMonkey and thought they looked like they should have Bible verses for their captions.   I hope you enjoy them.  I posted the original pictures at the bottom of the post so you can see what our back yard really looks like.

Psalm 89:5-6 The heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?

Psalm 91:5-6  You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

Psalms 104: 1-3 Praise the Lord, O my soul.  Oh Lord my God, you are very great; you are clothed with splendor and majesty.  He wraps himself in light as with a garment; he stretches out the heavens like a tent and lays the beams of his upper chambers on their waters.

Psalm 113:5-6  Who is like the Lord our God, the One who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look at the heavens and the earth?

Psalm 89: 15  Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord.

Photo of the Week

The farmers plowed the field behind our house in preparation for planting yesterday. We don't know what is going to be planted, but maybe sweet potatoes!

We caught sight of this totally white cat walking across the virgin soil this morning.

Number one: I bet his little paws were dirty afterwards

Number two: No camouflage at all. Glad there wasn't any prehistoric birds soaring by to pluck him out of there!

My grandson is four!!!



This is an old Southern home that has been turned into an accountant's office, and is located right beside the CVS where I shop. Imagine the sound this huge old tree made when being uprooted during Hurricane Irene. The city workers had quite a job cleaning up the portion of the tree blocking a major street in town, but this part of the tree hasn't been removed yet.
