Glimpses of Home - A Little Bit of Fall

I've been enjoying Fall.  I love this time of year.

Having a hubby who is retired is great.  He does so many things around the house. Here is a picture of a little bit of Fall decorating done by my Hubby.  I guess the NC State Flag gives away who was involved in it.  Haha

I finished a quilt and took a few pictures that show some fall in the background.

A few sunflowers came back from seed that fell earlier in the summer, and if our first frost holds off a little while longer, there will be blooms.

We have some huge mums!  This picture does not show just how big this one is.

Fall cleaning:  I don't why, but I always get in the mood to do extra cleaning in the fall.  I don't usually do much deep cleaning in the Spring.  But something about Fall makes me start cleaning under things! LOL

We're still having a lot of warm days and the weather has been beautiful most of the time.  I hope your Fall is going well and that you are enjoying life!

What's a girl to do when its July and its awhile until Fall is here?

 Sew some pumpkins!

I already had everything I needed to make this runner.  I have been working on a quilt that has a lot of orange in it, so I was able to pull fabrics from that project and I also found some in my fall fabrics that I store in a plastic tote. A while back I found some orange remnants in the remnant bin at Joann's Fabrics, so that came in handy for this project.   I love going through that bin! 

Its a perfect project for using up some scraps.

I always have scraps of quilt batting left over from other projects and found a piece that was just the right size.

The backing fabric is a calico print that I'm pretty sure is from the 80s or 90s.  I'm not sure, but that small orange flower made it perfect for the backing.

I love the orange dotted fabric I used for the binding and one of the pumpkins on the front.  That fabric came from Walmart and is probably still available.

I did not use the printable sheets.  I just did regular fusible applique.

Chalkboard Messages

I recently bought this little 2 sided chalkboard on Amazon to use as a photo prop with my grandchildren.    In addition to its use as a photo prop, I discovered that I really like writing different things on it.  It sits on the kitchen counter where we see it all the time.  I am really enjoying it.

Here I used it as a photo prop:

I used it here for my granddaughter's 2 month pictures.  I will be using it for this purpose a lot in the future.

Here I wanted to surprise my husband with a compliment!  He didn't notice it at first, so I took a picture and texted it to him.  He thinks I'm kind of crazy. LOL

It will be great for different seasons.  Fall, Winter, Christmas, Valentines, Spring, Summer, 4th of July and birthdays, etc. will be showing up on it.

One favorite way to use it is for Bible verses or Christian quotes

I'm not a chalkboard artist, but I can write and draw a simple sunshine, flower or heart!  Also there are all kinds of ideas on pinterest.

The frame is natural wood, but I'm thinking of painting it.  Just not sure what color.

Glimpses of Home = Cleaning and Fall Decorating.

I spent some time working around the house on Labor Day.  This included some decluttering, detail cleaning, reorganizing and fall decorating.  Here are a few glimpses.

Of course, coffee first!

I got an early start.

I cleaned high and low!  For example I moved some small things like the bench that sits in the dining room under the window, and cleaned the dust boards and floor with a Flylady "purple rag".    I decluttered some scraggly plants and dusted some of the plants' leaves.

I used my static duster to clean under heavier things, such as the china cabinet.  There was a petrified piece of a tortilla "scoop" and lots of dust bunnies.  After I pulled stuff out with the duster I vacuumed it up.  I also dusted on top of the taller pieces of furniture that don't get a lot of attention.  Out of sight, out of mind.

Cleaning makes a mess when you are in the process. haha

This is on the china cabinet.  Almost all my fall decor came from Dollar General. 

I like to rotate my quilts according to the seasons, so this is my fall one.  I really should work on another fall quilt!  I would love to do that!  Also possibly a new runner with the maple leaf block.

A reminder note to keep moving the laundry along!

I recently bought this chalkboard to use in a photo shoot.  I'm also going to write different messages on it and use it in this spot in the kitchen.  I can put messages that suit the season, or occasion, such as a birthday.    I removed some things from the counter that I don't use on a daily basis.  It looks so much cleaner with less stuff sitting out.

As for our house,

Its going to be in the mid 90s today, so its hard to think about fall, but in my house, its fall! 

Fall Around The Farmhouse

Good morning! Fall is my favorite time of year and so the Fall decorating at the farmhouse has begun!

This flag is perfect because my hubby has a red truck and lots of times there are pumpkins in it!

This is what you see when you come in our back door.  I made the runner a few years ago.  The only thing new is the "harvest" sign which came from Dollar General.

I love using what I already have on hand.  However, I would love to add some Fall dishes to my collection, so I'll be on the look out for them, especially when they are put on clearance after the fall season is over.

If you look close you will see that the dishes in the china cabinet are Christmas dishes!

This is a runner I made a few years ago on the kitchen counter/bar.

This picture has battery operated flickering lights.  I bought it on a deep clearance at Family Christian Stores a couple of years ago.  Its one of my all time favorite fall decorations.
