Good Deals at Piggly Wiggly

I doubt that many of you have a Piggly Wiggly near you. LOL. There are 4 within my shopping area, believe it or not!!!

Usually the prices aren't that good, but I thought these items I purchased yesterday were pretty good.

1. 12 pack Scott Extra Soft Toilet Tissue on sale for $5.99. There were $1.00 coupons for these in last Sunday's paper. I purchased two. I know a lot of people don't like Scott Toilet Tissue, but its absolutely the best value in my book. The rolls last a long time and now they have the "extra soft" kind. ONLY buy it when its on sale. In my area the 12 packs go on sale for $6.49 regularly at Food Lion, CVS, Walgreens, etc. and there are usually some $1.00 coupons in the paper. So the Piggly Wiggly sale for $5.99 was even better. I always try to have two or three twelve packs in my stash.

2. Piggly Wiggly Brand and Lucks Brand canned beans, 10 for $4.00. We use a lot of these to make chili. We make chili year round, but especially now that the Fall and Winter season are coming up. I also noticed that Lucks had a low fat version that was included in the sale. I purchase 10 cans of a combination of Pinto Beans, Great Northern Beans, Navy Beans and Hot Chili Beans. I probably should stop back by and get another 10 to really have the pantry stocked up!

3. VO5 shampoo for 49 cents. I know this is one of the cheapest shampoos, but my boys/men go through shampoo pretty fast. Sometimes I think they are using it for soap, so I give them a variety of shampoos. They have some nicer shampoos and some cheaper shampooos in the shower to choose from. I bought 3 bottles of non-feminine ones to have in my pantry. I already had a couple of bottles, since it goes on sale for 77 cents at drug stores. I've never seen it for 49 cents before.

I have learned to scan all the sales papers because even the stores you don't think have good prices will occasionally surprise you!

Thrifty Thursday

THRIFT STORE EXCITEMENT!

My favorite thrift store has a 39 cent sale 4 times a year and this weekend is the sale. This store is only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week. The 39 cent sale does not include large appliances, furniture, large baby items, etc., but does include every thing else in the store. Many of the items I have purchased in the past were only 25 cents to start with, but there are some things I've been waiting for the sale to purchase.

For instance, they have a huge rack of dresses, many of which have lots of buttons on them. The dresses are usually $2.50. For 39 cents I can buy a dress that has 12 buttons on it to use for sewing projects.

There's also the possibility of dresses that have good fabric to use for projects. One example would be a denim jumper I recently bought from this rack at the same thrift store. It has what seems like yards of fabric in it, with a Noah's Ark scene appliqued on the front and the back. The dress is new, without tags. I don't know anyone who wants it. I tried to sell it on EBay, but no takers! I hate to cut it up, but I think the denim fabric would make great tote bags. The sections with the Noah's Ark scenes would make a cute baby quilt or other creative ideas that I can come up with. Here is a picture of the jumper.

AND you never know what treasure you might run across! The store closes at 5:00 each day, so maybe on Friday since I get off work at 4:00, I can get off one hour early at 3:00. It takes me thirty minutes to get to the store from where I work, so I'd have 1 and 1/2 hours to browse.

Thrifty Thursday

Comical Coupon Cents is hosting Thrifty Thursday, where she asks fellow bloggers to share anything thrifty. We must be thinking alike this morning because she has almost the exact same post as I have!

My grandbaby visits about once a week and I needed some toys for him to play with at my house. I found him all these toys for $2.00 at a local thrift store.



I also bought him this bag of brand new handmade wooden building blocks for $1.00. They are for building a castle. I researched similar wooden blocks online and they are pretty expensive to buy new. This set of blocks is something the baby might want to keep to give to his own children some day, so I feel they were a great thrift store find!




When I go to a thrift shop I try to keep an open mind. Some trips yield nothing. On other trips I'll find treasures like the wooden block set.
