A Bad Habit Broken

I am happy to report that I haven't had a fast food sweet tea since my post HERE. But, just so you will know, there are many more bad habits to tackle:

1. I replaced the large sweet tea with a large Diet Cola. I hope it will be a bridge to drinking more water, and not just a bridge to nowhere!



2. I absolutely love flavored liquid coffee creamers. I enjoy all of the many different flavors Currently I am drinking "Cinnabon", "Bavarian Chocolate" and "Mocha". The sugar free and fat free types are really good, but don't come in as many different flavors. I guess I will need to limit myself to Hazelnut and French Vanilla....



My husband brings my coffee to me each morning and he really knows how I like it, with lots of the creamer!

3. I'm not a big fan of adding salt to my food. Everything has so much sodium already! I am faithfully practicing not adding salt or at least not adding much salt, to anything I cook. It really is an acquired taste and getting used to less salt is something we all need to do.



I have noticed that even the store brand of canned vegetables come in "no salt added" varieties now. I stocked up on Food Lion brand canned "no salt added" vegetables last week on sale for buy one get one free. A pretty good deal at 40 cents a can. If you combine a can of "no salt added" whole kernel corn with a can of regular creamed corn, you've got a great side dish that's not too unhealthy.

4. Chips... why oh why are the baked snacks so expensive? If I simply must have a salty snack, low fat tortilla chips with salsa are one option.



I guess that about covers it! NO SWEET TEA, LESS DIET COLA, MORE WATER , LESS SALT, LESS FAT AND LESS SUGAR IN THE COFFEE! ... AND NO CHIPS! :O(

Crikey! I hope you will tackle them one at a time or else you'll go into shock! LOL!

Sodium isn't so bad if you drink lots and lots of water, I'm talking about 2-3 liters a day. However, there is no problem with trying to eat low sodium.

Good luck with your quest! Taking the first steps are the hardest then you won't even really miss it.

Can be done. I've cut back on salt although have not bought canned good with no salt yet. I usually drink water. I love to eat all the things you have in the past. Oh my potato chips are yummy. But do you know if you take meds for high blood pressure if you eat a good bunch of chips your ankles will be swollen in the morning or your hands. You are right - cannot be good for you. I'm doing better too.

Congratulations on giving up the sweet tea. Salt is the hardest thing for me to give up but I've cut way back. I don't salt anything when I'm cooking and just have the shaker of sea salt on the table. I've found that a few grains of it give a tiny bit of flavor.

You go, Debbie! I am a diet pepsi (caffeine free) but I would love to drop that habit. But I do LOVE my diet pepsi! That's a good idea to mix one can of low sodium with regular. I'm trying to be more health conscious these days too. My b/p was up two times in a row at the dr. office, so I am now taking b/p meds... how depressing. I told him I would fight it with diet and exercise... so far, the diet is going pretty good, but not the exercise. :o(

Good job on all counts!!

And, what a cute teapot - or is it for coffee since it is beside your cup with the creamed coffee? Have you tried cream or creamer in your hot tea? Whichever it is, the pot is so cute.

Well done you. I've found the best way to flavour your food without adding salt is the use of fresh herbs and my all time favourite freshly milled black pepper, also my favourite drink happens to be water with lemon and also chammomile/honey or fruit tea.

I think once you make the commitment to eat more healthily it does become easier as your taste buds change.......good luck.

These changes are probably good for your health, but definitely good for your wallet. Soda pop, chips, and fast food are EXPENSIVE. It is easy to resist temptation when I consider that it can have a positive influence on the fabric budget. :)

Reading this post, I had JUST gotten through eating 2 hard-boiled eggs mashed up with BUTTER and SALT and pepper on them! :) I'm trying to watch certain things, too - especially my sweet tooth.
