Birdhouses and a Picket Fence

An unexpected Saturday off work and cooler than usual temperatures gave my hubby the time and incentive to put up the birdhouses and picket fence he gave me for Mother's Day. Summer is winding down and soon there will be many days for yardwork.

My grandmother's antique rose that I rooted is planted in front of the fence section and will cover it in a year or two.

The birdhouse posts will be painted white soon and I am planning a flower bed around the bottom next spring. During the winter I will make the bed the "lazy way" by laying down newspapers or cardboard, covered by mulch. Next spring the grass will be dead and easy to remove, leaving soft soil underneath.

So far, I love everything about your house! I think it's wonderful you have your grandma's rose bush. I hope it flourishes for years!
My bil has a fig tree in his backyard that was brought over from Italy about a hundred years ago (no kidding!) that went from Queens, to Floral Park to Mastic Beach. And it still bears fruit!
Hey, I'm glad you're making good use of the magnetic snaps. They couldn't have gone to a nicer person.
