Living With The Enemy...

We knew it was coming...
Up Close and Personal
The soil was prepared with its tell tale strips of wind break grass...

Tractors were moving in as we left for work Monday morning.  In fact, started showing up the Sunday before...

Early morning deception.  The enemy even looks beautiful in the early morning sun.

The enemy sits in straight rows like soldiers in line

This will be my view out the back door until Fall...

Yes, my friend.  The tobacco has been set out right in my back yard.  I haven't been this close to it since the Summer of 1975, when I helped harvest it.  That's 38 years!  I will be posting pictures of its growth as time goes by.

Oh dear! Well, you could always set fire to it but that might defeat the purpose of not inhaling! lol

LOL, do you really hate tobacco? I love the smell of barn cured tobacco and never get to smell it around here. It's nostalgia for me. :)

To me...it is very interesting...even though I do not smoke. But I have never seen it growing before or even know what it looks like in the field.

I know yu would rather look at something more pleasant though.

Memories! Memories!!! Memories!!!!
I remember the smell, the sticky gum on our hands, and the very hard work. There was a lot of good fellowship, but the works was messy, sticky and hard. Not to mention the fact that we had no idea how harmful this crop is.

how about that...do not see much in eastern NC anymore do we...mama never wanted me to "work in tobacco" because, well, I guess because she did and it was hard and messy. BUT, I must admit, I am a bit ashamed that I never did.Feel like I missed out learning about it and working hard like so many did.

I think you will really enjoy this field this summer!!

We didn't farm, but helping to put in tobacco bought our school clothes for the next year. And it was gummy, nasty, and very hard work. I can say I never smoked, but living in a house with two parents who smoked, I'm sure I inhaled my share of second hand smoke. My grandmother dipped the stuff. (snuff) Somehow I never thought of it as the enemy, but you are right.

Glimpses of Home - first quarter of 2021

I made a list of my 2021 goals that I wrote down in the back of my planner.  Its time to review that to see how I am doing! But, here are a ...
