Ice on the Pumpkin!

Its an icy morning here in eastern North Carolina! We have 100 counties in the state that stretch from the Smokey Mountains to the Outer banks, and 97 of them were under a winter weather advisory yesterday and last night.

Click HERE to see a You Tube video of wild horses walking in the snow right beside the ocean at Corolla, NC, which is on the outerbanks.  Amazing!  We didn't get a flake of snow, just ice.

Yes, there is still a pumpkin in our yard. My hubby brought this huge, heavy pumpkin home in September. It looked beautiful in our yard for fall. But, he had knee surgery in November and was housebound for several weeks. It was too heavy for either of us to move and so I rolled it behind this tree so that it couldn't be seen from the road. However, I can see it looking out the kitchen window and noticed it had a glaze of ice on it this morning.

I like fall, so it lets me relive that season a little every time I look out the window!

The ice is covering everything else in the yard this morning too.

A good day for plenty of this:

I am thawing these tomatoes for vegetable soup:

I'll be simmering the soup, burning candles, drinking coffee and working in my sewing room today.

Oh yeah, laundry too!

What a lovely post...you got more than we did over in Kinston. Our front steps have a bit of ice and the streets look ok to me, however, I do not plan on going out til after lunch.

Thanks for sharing the ponies on Corolla...one of my most favorite days in my life was spent on Shackleford with the wild horses!!!

Your yard looks like ours today. I don't mind at all being stuck in the house yesterday and today due to the ice, and very happy we still have power!! Soup and sewing, what a great combo. Stay warm, we southern girls are not use to this cold weather!! Ha

Debbie, I know this probably sounds silly. But with so little connection to people these days I really enjoy your blog. Last year I bought a sunflower mug just like yours. So as I enjoy my coffee today I'll remember your blog, lovely quilts and ice on the pumpkin. And the encouragement you give to help me sew again. You have the best simple and beautiful ideas.

Good Morning! We are still warming up the house. In all day yesterday. A dusting of snow before breakfast yesterday. Then, sleet and freezing rain. The mail delivery person did not make it to our box!!!

Thank you for the glimpses around your home this morning. I will also enjoy the ponies at Corolla.
The soup should warm you to your toes!

Ice everywhere around here, too! That is one awesome pumpkin you have there. I made veggie soup yesterday, along with bean dip, banana bread and sausage dogs. We enjoyed watching the weather and eating all day. :))

I think you got more ice than we did. It is cold outside. Good day for staying in and doing something. I read all day yesterday. As long as we have power, I don't mind winter weather. Enjoy your soup!

It's been quite chilly here too on the Welsh Border, although it's been a terrific drying day, I've been watching the wild wind dancing through my washing all morning.

Love your icy pictures, especially the icicles along the roof.

Enjoy your sewing.
