Whatcha Working on Wednesday - Quilt Squares

Today is Watcha Working on Wednesday at Leslie's blog, "My Country Home".

This week I have been doing quite a bit of sewing. I made a new Spring pocketbook that I posted about on Saturday, HERE.

I have also made a few more blocks for the Cozy Cabins Quilt that I have been working on.

Here are the ones I have made so far.

These squares are easy to make. All you need is a 2 1/2 inch center block in black. I chose fabric in the colors of browns and pinks as the main anchor colors. Each square will have some brown and pink.

The pattern gives the exact measurements for the length of all the strips and how many to cut, etc. I simply cut the strips of my fabric into 1 1/2 inch strips. Then I sew the strips onto the square and trim the excess so that it is square, as I go. The squares are so simple that I can sit down and sew a few strips on without putting alot of thought into it. The only thing that taxes my brain is trying to choose which fabrics to use together on a particular block!

I put all the strips and squares that I have cut so far into a big ziplock bag.

I keep this bag, as well as the other fabric to be used in this quilt in a storage basket. I can pull from this bag and basket in the small snips of time that become available for sewing. Due to the close proximity of my sewing area to the kitchen, laundry room and family room, I can sew a few strips on while doing other things.

My plan is to make a few of these quilt squares each week and eventually I will have completed the number needed to make a quilt.

It requres a lot of patience to make a quilt! I love those books about making quilts in a weekend, but honestly, it just doesn't happen that way in my experience. Or, maybe I'm just not a fast seamstress!

So what have you been working on lately?

Debbie~ I haven't been working on anything,it's almost 4AM and another night has come and gone with NO sleep. I am thinking about using that blue purse that I made as my overflow bag and make me a new one more similar to yours, yes I am going to copy your pattern!!! I forgot to put pockets in the blue purse and I sure miss pockets....just one more project in my list of many..

You are a busy girl. My computer is located in my kitchen next to the wall of my laundry room... thus while you are sewing... I'm running back to the computer to see which one of my "favorites" has posted..LOL

Very nice! You have quite a few completed! I really want to make a quilt for my bed but I just don't know if I want to take on that task! The whole idea of buying yards and yards of fabric just freaks me out. I'm one of those that only buys small amounts or like only a yard at a time! LOL One day....

Have a great day!

Debbie, I think I lost my comment, lol!

I just wanted to say that is going to be a beautiful quilt when it's finished.

You are so wise to make such good use of your time.

Hi Debbie,
I love the colors for the quilt, I need to show this to my mother when she comes out to visit. You really have been busy, i just can't seem to get motivated lately, I think I am going to blame it on spring fever.I dare not blame it on blogging!!! LOL
Now as far as not eating collards, I forgot to tell you that in order to be a True Blue Country girl you have to eat them!!! LOL. But a banana sandwich is also on the list so 50% is not bad..LOl Have a great Day.Thank you for stopping by, I always enjoy your visits.
Blessings,
Sue

Your quilt blocks are so pretty. I love the pink and brown color combination. I like the way you are sewing them... by sewing the strip and then trimming. Makes it go much faster huh?

I haven't done any quilting in ages, but I'm pretty sure the pattern you have there is a version of the Log Cabin called "Courthouse Steps." I bet it's going to be beautiful!
Yep, the onion rings were delicious. And I'm happy to say the few I put in the freezer came out perfect when I went to cook them again. So now I think I'll just have to make some for the freezer to eat in the future. They go really well with slider casserole!

I've been re-doing my pantry and trying to make it pretty, and have been decopaging a few things.

But I need to do some fabric sewing! I did a little sewing for Jimmy - a new curtain and fixed some jeans and polo shirt.

Your quilt squares are so nice, that is what I hope to work on soon.

happy sewing to you Debbie

I like how you are putting the colors together for this quilt. A little bit at a time is the way to go. I sometimes sew like that too. I hope I happen on your blog when that quilt is finihed. It is going to be pretty for sure.

Glimpses of Home - first quarter of 2021
