Thrift Store Finds

Today is Frugal Friday at Life as Mom's Blog.

If you've never been much of a thrift store shopper, you don't know what you are missing. You have to have an open mind and think of it as a treasure hunt. Let's face it, most thrift stores aren't very pretty. Get over it!

The thing I love about thrifting is that you never know what treasure you might run across. Some of my favorite finds were just small things like a cereal bowl to match my dishes, a basket or a book. You can also re-purpose many things if you have both an open mind and think in a creative way.

Last Friday I stopped in after work which allowed me about 40 minutes before the store closed. I was pleasantly surprised to see a sign in the window that said, "Everything in the store is 25 cents today only".

I think I did pretty good:

Two pocketbooks with wooden handles that can be repurposed into new pocketbooks.

Four denim skirts and a cotton shirt to use for sewing fabric. The plaid shirt will go into my stash for a quilt made from men's shirts some day. The denim in the skirts is so soft and of good quality for sewing. I have already laundered these items and will cut them apart and place them in the right stack in my sewing room.

I found these clothes for my grandson. Some fit now and some will fit later this summer, next fall and winter.

Two "Okie Dokie" play shirts

An NC State shorts set.

A Spiderman Jacket

Children's Place summer short overalls

Old Navy Baby denim overalls and shirt

Disney Store Tigger Shirt

I really wanted more time to shop, but it just wasn't meant to be. I didn't do too bad for $3.75 in only 40 minutes!

I love going to thrift stores. Haven't been in awhile, so I might have to make an afternoon of it pretty soon. You found some excellent deals. And you're right, you have to just get over thrift stores not being so nice but you can find some real treasures there, if you have an open mind. Great post.

Wow, what a haul! My local Salvation Army is actually very neat and clean. They even organize the clothes by both type and color! So I just have to go straight to pink sweaters if that's what I'm interested in, LOL!
I have a bunch of stuff in the back of my car that I need to take over there. I've probably already told you my thrifting rule: I have to donate a LOT more than I bring home again, LOL!

You did so great - ohhh, I am trying not to be envious of a .25 sale!

I loved that you said "get over it", lol. I don't mind that factor too much, as long as the place is not disgusting. I draw the line at going through trash. :)

We just don't have those kinds of deals here - maybe I need to move to NC!

Debbie~ What great finds. My grandson would love the spiderman jacket!! We only have 2 thrift stores here, one is Goodwill and their prices are just way too high, the other is run by a church and they have great prices but not many things to choose from. I do still like to visit them though.
Have a great weekend.
Blessings,Joann
