My New Spring Pocketbook

Happy Spring!

Today I participated in that rite of Spring along with many other women in the world..... changing over to a Spring pocketbook. I love the winter pocketbook that I found while on my anniversary trip with hubby last Fall, but its time to tell my old friend goodbye!

I have been purchasing denim clothing from the thrift store to be repurposed into sewing fabric. So I decided to put some of this denim fabric to use in a new Spring Pocketbook.

I paired some of this wonderfully soft denim with a fat quarter a friend gave me. The fat quarter has blue in it and so it looks nice with the denim. Once I put the two together I noticed that I had some grosgrain ribbon in a green that went well with some of the background colors in the fat quarter.

I love the way it turned out. I've already transferred all the contents of my winter pocketbook into the new one!

Another view of the finished pocketbook:

The pocketbook is lined with the denim fabric. I made several pockets, including a narrow one for pens, nail files, etc.

One last look at my Winter pocketbook, for old times sake!

Has anybody else changed over to a spring handbag yet?

I love them both. I have switched over to a spring purse but it's not a new one and I'm certainly not brave enough to try making one! Have a good evening.

I love the purse you made. I switched mine over last week to one I made last summer. I love making purses. Great job.

Hi Debbie,
You did such a great job on that purse, I know you have heard me say this before, but it bears repeating, I so admire people who are gifted with their hand. I had to smile when you mentioned changing purses I have been so busy wanting spring to come I just plain forgot!!! LOL
Blessing,
Sue
P.S.Yes it was on Skibo Rd. LOL

My daughter is taking home ec. in school this year. She is getting ready to sew! I'm so excited. Silly huh? I think she is going to start with a sundress. I hope she likes sewing. We'll see. :)

I really like the green and blue combination of your spring one.

and, No, I have not yet switched. A new bag is on my list of things to sew but I have been taking care of baby Gavin since his mom is back at work.

Debbie~ Your new spring purse puts my new spring purse to shame. Yours is just beautiful!! I love the colors and it looks like a nice size. What type of batting do you use?? I have only bought cotton batting because I like the feel of it, but yours doesn't look the same. Would cotton work the same??? Can you tell I am new to sewing??

Super job, Debbie. You challenge each of us!

No. I have not switched handbags yet. But, you inspire me. It is time to tuck away the dark, heavy winter stuff and break out into spring.

I love your new pocketbook. The colors are beautiful and that was a great way to repurpose your denim. I changed out a few weeks ago to a new bag, but it's very neutral... can be spring or anytime, really. So, after seeing your new bag, and how bright and pretty it is, I think I need to find something else.

Hi!

You are really going to enjoy that pocketbook! How lovely! I really like that you put narrow pockets in there for pens; I feel like I spend half my life looking for something in the bottom of my purse! No, I don't switch pocketbooks ever. I keep the same one until it is trashed (i.e. years). Or until it starts causing pain somewhere due to its design (you know, some purses hurt your hand or shoulder, etc.).

Have a lovely day!
