Sewing Room Progress

Organizing my fabric is listed as one of the items on the "2009 To Do List" on the side bar and I've been working diligently on this. The only thing is that in order to organize the fabric, I had to organize the sewing room. I still have a lot fabric scraps to organize, but wanted to show pictures of the changes I've made so far.

This is my main sewing area.

A close up of a thread organizer hung on the wall to the left of my sewing machine. Its so much more convenient to change thread without rummaging through a box or bag.

This is an updated picture of the shelves with folded fabric on them. I only folded pieces that were at least 1/2 yard here. I'll be adding more as I go through more bags of fabric and scraps.

Here is another storage area, but I haven't finished working on it. The plastic drawers hold different sizes strips, projects in progress and five inch charm squares.

These two drawers hold 2 1/2 inch strips. One drawer is for light colors and the other drawer is for dark colors.

KEEPING IT REAL!

This picture shows a large box of scraps to be ironed and organized, a bag of clothing to be repurposed as fabric and a stack of long pieces of fabric to be rotary cut into strips. All of this is stacked on the treadmill, which I need to be on right now!

I just need to keep remembering "baby steps, baby steps, baby steps!"

Debbie,
Your sewing room looks lovely! You are doing such a nice job on it. It's so pretty to see all the thread spools hanging up and all the fabric folded so nicely.

You're inspiring me to get more organized!

You are my hero! Your sewing area looks wonderful and so user friendly. Have you ever bought thrift store clothes to cut up for fabric? I read something about this the other day and thought what a great idea! (our Mennonite neighbors used to buy extra large dresses from thrift store and cut them down to make their little girl dresses)

Wow, it looks great! I wish I had the space you did to organize my "everything" room! Scrapbooking, sewing, etc. I don't craft enough though to get super organized, although you are quite inspiring! :)

Debbie~ You are just putting me to shame, I have been working on my craft room for almost 3 weeks now and have no pictures that show any real progress. Most of the things I have done so far are just going through boxes and putting like things together. Your room looks wonderful and so organized compared to mine. I have just felt no motivation to get anything done in the past few weeks. Maybe your post will light a fire under my behind and get me moving...thanks for that..
Blessings,Joann

Wow, that looks great! I really like how organized all your folded fabric looks. I need to do something with my sewing stuff, it is all in boxes and bags, very hard to get to!

I think it's coming along quite nicely. And treadmills are overrated. ;-)

Seriously, it looks great. My problem is I love organizing things, I just don't end up *doing* the crafts. *sigh* My daughter and I did complete a potholder (the first thing for her hope chest!) - I hope you'll have time to come see it when I post a picture on Wordless Wednesday.

Keep taking those "baby steps", you're doing fantastic. :-P

Wow, it looks amazing!
You know, my husband gave me a Joanne's gift card for Christmas. I think I need to get myself one of those thread organizers like you have. It looks so nice!

You are really getting everything shipshape around there. My piles (paper not cloth) are still everywhere. I get nothing done...

I always enjoy coming by for a visit. Isn't it a great feeling when we get a specific job done on our to-do list.

You have done such a great job on your sewing area. I especially liked the way your tread spools are organized on the wall next to your sewing machine. Great idea. You are a great organizer, I'm very impressed. A place for everything and everything in its place! Great post!
