Poodles in Paris Handbag

SEW CRAFTY FRIDAY

I made this bag last Saturday. Its a delightful departure from the many John Deere bags I have been making! My blogger friend, Elizabeth, sent me this fabric with the request for a bag. She also sent me a box full of fabric from her stash.

The fabric has many pretty colors. I chose a matching chocolate brown for the accent color. Some of the ladies in the fabric have on skirts with brown and white dots, so I thought the brown and white dotted ribbon looked extra cute with it. The brown bottom and handle will stand up to a lot of wear because of the dark color and its a thick fabric.

Its so amazing how many different fabrics we have available to us!!! Our poor ancestors used feed sacks and what ever they could get, but now we have so much to choose from!

I'm also doing a pocketbook tutorial series on my blog. It'll be on my sidebar indefinitely if you want to make a bag.

I love your bag, since you seem to have a lot of experience maybe you can answer a question for me. On my thrift store bag I ironed on interfacing to make the fabric stiffer and it didn't work at all. In fact it started peeling off as I was sewing it.
Any suggestions...

I used some one sided fusible interfacing on some things I made and at first I had the iron too hot and it bubbled and just plained messed up the fabric. I had better luck with a little lower temperature. I don't know why it would peel off unless the iron temperature was too hot or too low. Maybe with a lower temperature and ironing it longer would work? I'm not sure.

I want to make one of the place mat bags like you made. I bought a bag with good handles at the thrift shop for $1.00. I can use the handles from that.

Cool! I love it! I wonder if I could find any 'Chihuahuas in Chicago' fabric, LOL?

That looks cute! Also, it looks like a lot more fun than a John Deere bag! ;)

I love your Poodles in Paris handbag. How big is it exactly? I like the size and style of it. Is it the same pattern you used for the pocket book, but enlarged? I would love to make one myself.
