Update on Mama: Her Nephrologist made the decision that she does need to go on dialysis and so today the surgery to insert the Portacath will be done. I'm not sure how much longer she will be in the hospital, but I suspect at least 2 or 3 more days. As much as I dread this new burden for her, I realize that it is a blessing that dialysis exists to help her live a much longer life. So, "it is what it is!".

Aw, Debbie. I am sorry she is having to go on dialysis, but she will probably feel so much better after the treatments. Do you know how often she will have to go for dialysis? ((hugs)) to you all!

Debbie, you're right to be thankful for dialysis treatments, even though they are an added burden! My own mother was on dialysis for 6 years (she was a diabetic with kidney failure). It prolonged her life for those years and gave me more time with her. I pray that all will go well for your mother!

My mil was on dialysis for a number of years. I think it's one reason we got to keep her a little longer. I hope your mom does well with it. It's a few hours a couple of days a week. Maybe you could get her some audio books to listen to? Give her a kiss for me. I just visited my own mom in Ohio two weeks ago. She's 88. May both our moms live to see 100!
