A Fussy Cut Mug Rug

I always called them coasters, but nowadays they are sometimes called mug rugs. But maybe mug rugs are technically little quilts with a binding and everything, so maybe this is really just a plain old coaster.

Anyway, as part of my simple farmhouse Christmas, I am making coasters and napkins this week using some Debbie Mumm rustic looking fabric.

Just cut your squares the size you want. Mine are about 6 inches. You need a top fabric, scrap of quilt batting and a bottom fabric.

This is the first one that I whipped up and the corners are a little wonky, but I hope to do better on the rest of them. My old sewing machine doesn't want to do those corners, but with practice I can improve.

I hope to show you some more coasters/mug rugs and the napkins later this week.

Mug Rug reminds me of one of the first craft projects I ever did. Our elderly neighbor taught me and some of her granddaughters how to make plastic canvas coasters that said Mug Rug on them. They were rectangular shaped with fringes on the two short ends and looked like, well, like a rug! I was so proud of that little project!

I'm enjoying your simple Christmas projects. I'd like to make some Christmas napkins and maybe some coasters.

Shucks! I just thought they were coasters! Now, I have a new term for my vocabulary- mug rug. Suits
me! They are cute.

Corners sometimes give me fits, too. But the overall results are very nice.

Wow! This mug rug is so cute and lovable. I wonder if there is an area rug with that design because it perfectly fits for the Christmas season. But we must take care of our rugs and carpets all the time by regularly cleaning it. In St Petersburg, carpet cleaning is really in demand for every households there especially this season because guests are definitely coming on Christmas! And carpet cleaning shops there offer a variety of cleaning services that we'll surely love!
