Piggly Wiggly Dishes
Today is Show and Tell Friday at Kelli's House.
My mother collected two sets of dishes for me from Piggly Wiggly.
The first one was in 1975 or 1976. The way it worked was that each time a person spent a certain amount of money on groceries you could buy a piece of the china at an inexpensive price. So each week my mother would bring home 2 or 3 pieces of the china for my hope chest. It ended up being a large set!
Then again in the year 2000, Piggly Wiggly offered more dishes. This time the name of the dishes was "The Cades Cove Collection". My husband and I visited Cades Cove in Tennessee while on our honeymoon so we just had to have a set.
So this time my mother AND my husband worked on accumulating this set. The dishes have apples and cherries on them. We really enjoy these dishes and use them on a daily basis. We ended up with a large set of the Cades Cove dishes which includes several serving pieces.
I hardly ever shop at Piggly Wiggly any more, but the store is popular with many folks in our area.
Has anyone else collected dishes from Piggly Wiggly or some other store?

There have many times I can look back in time and wish I ahd taken advantage of buying sets of dishes from the grocer. There have been many beautiful offers just like your's. Thanks for sharing! I love dishes!!!
We shop Piggly Wiggly alot! But I never got any dishes... Yours are so pretty... When I shop I go in with the list... get the things on there and get out...LOL
I wonder, if in years to come, your dishes will be sought after, like depression glass is now?
I haven't seen a piggly wiggly store in eons!!! You have a beautiful collection.
My show n tell is now posted. Do drop in if you can find some time to visit.
Happy weekend.
We don't have that grocery chain here. I wish we did, they have great offerings of dishes. Very pretty patterns on yours.
Oh my the first set looks so much like a lenox pattern, how pretty!
I wish stores still had dishes that we could collect....Your dishes are precious...Have a wonderful weekend...Julie
What a great Show and Tell for this Friday. I loved that your Mom collected these from the store as my Gramma used to get dishes at the movies. I love to come and see the neat things that everyone shares.

wow those are really neat! one of our local stores was offering baking dishes-clear glass. i was able to get some nice deep dish bakers and things like that. it was a lot of fun once you had enough points to get what you wanted!
Those are pretty. I always wondered where they got that funny name for a store.
So sweet! Great memories along with great dishes lol
Those Cades Coves dishes are pretty! When I was in high school, our (small) town bank had some kind of offer for a four-piece place setting of dishes. My mom got a set for me and a set for my sister. I still use mine sometimes. And my mom's still using the silverware she got with Betty Crocker points.
I love your dishes, especially the Cade's Cove set. We don't have a Piggly Wiggly nearby, but I remember shopping there with my parents when I was growing up.
I collected the Cades Cove set from Albertson's when I lived in Ft. Worth, TX. We've been using them every day for probably 10 years now. I also use a set of Corelle that my mother gave my grandma in about 1972 for Christmas. My mother passed away in 1981, so when my grandma passed away in 2004, my aunt sent me the set. It's quite in style right now - it's definitely retro! LOL
I got these exact dishes only we got them at a Kohl's food store in Wisconsin. My whole family helped me get the dishes by shopping and picking up a piece. Great memories of how we'd all get to get together to decide who would get what dish.
My mother-in-law gave me a set of these lovely dishes when my husband and I got married in 1973. Not sure when she got them but she had saved them for his wife. He is an only child. I have always loved them and feel very fortuante to have been the recipiant of a thoughtful mother-in-law'The only item she didn't get were the salt and pepper shakers...i look in flea malls trying to find them. The patterm I have is called Royal Swirl
Your dishes are so pretty! I especially love the tiny flowers.

I am looking to buy a single Cades Cove Apple Blossom Cup for my sister who has the whole collection but unfortunately broke a cup. If anyone has an extra one please contact me. Sincerely...T
Is there a name on the set of dishes with the light pink roses? My grandmother collected these for my mother, and I would like to search for more pieces to add to the collection.
I will have to look on the back of them. You are a "no reply blogger" so I can't reply to your comment through email.
So you will need to see the comments here to see my answer.
Thanks.
