Show and Tell Friday - Chickens

Today is Show and Tell Friday at Kelli's House and this week I am showing "some" of the chickens that reside in my kitchen.

This is a framed under glass cross stitch that I found at a yard sale for $1.00. I'm always surprised to find handmade items at yard sales, but I guess they just become clutter if you have moved on to other things.

These are items my hubby bought me. A chicken whose tail feathers are measuring spoons, a canister and a cutting board. All of these items hold special memories for me. An anniversary, Christmas or birthday.

This is the side of the curtain that hangs on the window over my kitchen sink. It is special to me too because my son gave it to me for Mother's Day. I was so amazed that my "tough guy" bought me curtains, dish towels, pot holders and a rug, all with chickens on them, for Mother's Day one year. He wrapped each of them individually in newspaper and left them on the kitchen table for me to find on Mother's Day morning. It was like Christmas. I would have hung those curtains no matter what size or color they were, but they are perfect!

Chicken bottles, potholder and mug:

Chicken plates found at Dollar Tree:

Speckled Hen and Silver Sussex Cockerel:

The two chickens on each side came from my grandmother's house. They are glass flower vases. You can see the chipped paint. The chicken cups and welcome chicken were found at a thrift store in the mountains.

More chicken plates:

A chicken mug rack. The mugs are harvest gold and have fall leaves imprinted on them.

Do you have a collection or theme in your kitchen? If so, what do you collect?

I have some chickens that we gave to my grandmother and my husband's mother many years ago.. At my grandmother's passing we found our names written underneath and they were returned back to us...when I told my MIL, she did the same and years later we received those back... I don't really have a theme for my kitchen... I love your collections!

Hello Debbie, Loved your chickens....
Well, i see we have something else in common,I too enjoy collecting chickens, namely roosters. Living on a farm you know you have to have live chickens too or a farm would not be a farm. It is so funny, when I first started collecting the not so real ones, my family and friends thought that is what iI should have for every occasion, needless to say it got out of hand !!! LOL
Thank you for stopping by...And remember take that ME TIME!!!!
OH!!! Do you ever go to Salemburg Pizza? my favorite place to eat!!!
Blessings,
Sue

I love the chicken stuff! I don't know what it is about chickens, but I just find them visually appealing, LOL. My favorite is the Speckled Hen! If I had more room in my kitchen, I'd have more of them (that and fruit, for a decorating theme).

That's alot of chicken and rooster stuff! I really like the two pictures! And I love when I find things to fit my decor at yard sales or thrift stores for next to nothing! You have a nice collection and it's put together really well!

Have a great weekend!

Ok that chicken with the measuring spoons as its tail --now I LIKE that a lot. It makes me smile.

Love the post -- so much poultry! My Mom raised chickens, so I have a soft spot for them. No collections in my kitchen yet -- I'm still figuring out where I can put a pot rack!

Hi Debbie,
My sister collects roosters for her kitchen. Really cute.
I have a sewing question...do you know of any website etc for quilted Christmas stocking patterns??? Free would be good. I would like to make all the kids on my Christmas list new Christmas stockings this year and I'm not having much success with locating patterns. Any help would be great!!!!!
Thanks, Coleen

Hi Coleen,

I haven't made any Christmas Stockings, but would love too. If I were going to make them I would google "quilted Christmas Stocking pattern".

When I get some of my sewing to do list done, I would like to make new stockings for my family. Ours are old.

I hope yours turn out good. You are moving right along with your Christmas sewing, aren't you! Good Job!
