The magic of a few scraps.

It was a very satisfying weekend of sewing, even though there was much busyness going on that was totally unrelated to sewing and quilting. People do have to buy groceries, do laundry and other things on the weekend besides sewing, I suppose.

I had such a good time making the ECU pillow case for Friday Night Sew In that I didn't want the fun to end, so I pulled out some scraps left from making this quilt for my grandson a couple of years ago,



Made a matching pillowcase,



With rickrack trim,



And bought one of these pillows from Dollar General to go inside the pillowcase. I tried to convince my grandson that sleeping with this special pillow and pillow case would make him brave when he wakes up in the middle of the night. Apparently he doesn't share my belief in the magic of scraps, but he liked the pillow and pillow case anyway.



The picnic quilt sandwich is ready for pinning on the sewing room floor. This will be my project for the next couple of nights and then on to machine quilting what I hope to be many different designs.



We delivered the quilted walker caddy to our housebound friend who was very pleased with it. It looked very neat and fit securely on the font bar of the walker with velcro.



Using fabric scraps to make useful gifts for others is an important part of satisfaction in sewing for me. Each of these three projects were made with scraps and I feel they will be useful to the persons who receive them. Its a very special gift when it is sewn with love and the magic of a few scraps.

Friday Night Christmas Sewing

Its finally here! Friday Night Sew In is this Friday, January 21st.

As I posted earlier, I'd like to make Christmas gifts during Friday Night Sew in each month during the year. One idea I have is to make pillow cases to fit the individual likes of my children and grandson.

So, this week, I will make an "Appie" pillow case. In case you aren't from Western North Carolina (I'm not either!), Appie is short for Appalachian State. One of my sons-in-law is an Appie graduate and played football there. I already have Appie fabric and the pillow case instructions printed out. So I'm good to go.

I made my son-in-law a Christmas Stocking for Christmas 2009 from this same fabric and he really loves it. Since he only gets to see that stocking for a few minutes on Christmas Day, I think he would love a pillow case that he can use every day.

Here is a pillowcase I made for my son last year in camoflauge fabric. I love the way it turned out. There are no raw edges and its very professional looking. Of course I will need to make my son's pillow case from a different fabric this time! Here's the camoflauge pillowcase.

Autumn Strippy Table Runner Finished!

A Strippy Fall Table Runner

For September's Friday Night Sew In I decided to work on the Fall Table Runner that I had been planning to do for quite some time. My goal for Friday Night Sew In is the totally complete a project, but this one isn't done yet. I hope to quilt and bind it this weekend and maybe will be able to show you the finished runner in a few days. I hope to plan better in October so that the project can be completed in time to post the results on Saturday.

Anyway, here is the completed top of the runner. I pulled all these fabrics from scraps and my stash. I am blessed to have so much fabric that I can put together a project without going shopping at all.



I initially planned to make the runner reversible with a Christmas theme on one side and an Autumn theme on the other, but decided against it. First of all, I didn't have time and I wanted to see how the Autumn runner turned out before going to all that trouble. I even pulled the Christmas fabrics I wanted to use, which will come in handy when I get around to making it!







Well, I better get going! There's more to homemaking than quilting and sewing and its Saturday!

Friday Night Sew In

Are you tired of seeing this quilt yet? I finished the machine quilting last night. I only need to bind it now, so I promise just one more post of the FINISH, hopefully this weekend!
