Farm House/French Country Shopping

This post is a part of Southern Hospitality's THIRFTY TREASURES.

Hubby and I went Farmhouse/French Country shopping today. Now it wouldn't really be farmhouse style if it was expensive, so our shopping took us to used furniture stores, antique stores and a discount store called "Roses". We found bar stools that go perfectly with our theme at Roses. The total price for four was less than the price of one fancier bar stool in a furniture store, and I love them!

I think they will go perfectly in the kitchen:

I really love to get a good deal and put together items that make up my own style. This chair was out in front of a used furniture store. Again, I think it is perfect. The seat is red toile, but can easily be recovered if I choose too. The black wood has a distressed look with slight little bits of red showing through on the edges. I may use it for my sewing machine chair, in the hallway or at the entry.

There is an antique store in my area that is huge and full of stuff. The front portion is pretty high priced, but if you go in the back portion there are some pretty good deals. I am still putting together some dishes for the wall above the window in the dining room and found a couple more today:

A red one:

A green one:

Your kitchen is just stunning. I just love it and the barstools will be just perfect. The black chair is wonderful too. If you are hunting for some wonderful plates check out Goodwill. You will find some really fantastic ones if you are only looking for l or 2. I can't wait to see the finished wall. Hugs, Marty

It's so much more satisfying finding treasure for your home at thrift stores, auctions etc. and I feel you get a much nicer result, and very individual.

Those stools are perfect! Enjoy your finds :)

Niki

You sure found some nice things. I love that red toile! I wish we had better thrift and antique stores around here. Well, they're fine but too expensive. I like my salvation army store, but never, ever find any awesome vintage stuff. This is why I look forward to visiting my mother in Ohio every year--we always go to a little Amish grocery store that also has a thrift store section. I always find the coolest things there!

I love your kitchen too! Your bar stools are perfect for the area. I can just imagine you making pretty little stool pads for every season to adorn your stools with. :o) The chair is a pretty find too.... are you going to leave it black? I am still on the lookout for a perfect sewing chair!

I really like that kitchen. Ours is all white as well, but we need new cabinets. I like that style very much and the counters, what are they, butcher block?
